A chicken tractor is a movable chicken coop without a floor. Chicken tractors may also be used to house other species of poultry, but the name is most often applied to chicken enclosures. The chicken tractor has a number of advantages over fixed cages: The chickens always have fresh ground to scratch at and grass to eat. The cage never needs cleaning; when the enclosed area starts to look worn or patchy, the cage is simply dragged to a new location, the droppings left behind help to fertilize the soil. The Brown (red) chickens are Red star sex link, meaning they're bred specifically so that males and females are different colors when they hatch. Females are egg-laying machines that continue to lay brown eggs well in the heat and cold, when many others slow down. The white chickens are Leghorns (Seasoned pros pronounce it like "leggern"). They lay large, white eggs practically every day!           |
