Happy New Year from the Carey's and all of the Critters!!!

First, we would like to apologize for the lateness of this card! As many of you know, I am working active duty and only get home on most weekends. The weather was not cooperating before the new year. Our very dear friend, Christine, came up to spend some time with us and we had the picture-perfect day while she was here. She took the picture for us. She and I were both in bee suits but I was still a bit nervous…As you can tell by my face. We were standing in the midst of about 400,000 honeybees - so being only a BIT nervous is pretty darn good in my book!! Tom is a lot more brave than I am when it comes to the bees!! We are looking forward to the day when we start harvesting honey…. We have had a taste of it and it is delicious!!!!

We have been doing very well here on our almost 8 acres in the deep south!! We have been raising chickens and honeybees. We also have goats that we 'share' with the neighbors. They mainly take care of the goats and we (Tom) mainly take care of the bees. And we help each other out when either of us is out of town [we have the most wonderful neighbors!!!]

We have Red Star Sex-Link chickens, White Leghorn chickens, Brown Leghorn chickens, and Rhode Island Red chickens. When we started out, we had 51 girls and 1 rooster. We still have the original rooster [his name is Randall] and 13 of the original girls. We bought an incubator and Randall has now fathered 23 White Leghorn babies. We have quite a few roosters out of the 23 [not sure of the exact amount], but one of them developed very quickly and will be fathering some of his own in the future [His name is Brooster]. We still have 9 of the babies living in the house. [I call them 'city chicken' since I am a city girl -- who else would raise chickens in the house?!!] The rest of the chickens live in chicken tractors or the big 'eggloo' that we built - outside. When the indoor chickens are big enough and have all of their feathers, they will go outside with the others.

We have had a lot of fun down here in Sale City!! We have made some wonderful friends and we love our place!! If you are interested in reading some more about what we have been up to since we moved here, you can go to our website…. EcoXplorers.tv we have a link there 'visit our homestead' where you will find some pictures and videos [I am not sure where the link is located on the page anymore - but it is there]. We have not posted any pictures of the newest 'babies' yet, so check back in a few months or so and you should find them there. We have dial-up internet at the house, so Tom has to go to the Sale City Library every time he wants to add to the websites. [www.MeditateWithMe.com is my site]

We wish you great happiness and prosperity in this beautiful new year!! HOME
